November 8 - Steadfast Faith
As we begin our three-week season of Thanksgiving at St. Andrew’s, we start with something more important than a list of blessings. We start with the foundation of our faith: Jesus Christ.
Our worship opens with Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation, reminding us that everything we do as a church begins with Christ. From there, In Christ Alone and The Solid Rock reinforce that same truth. Life changes, circumstances shift, and some weeks are harder than others, but our foundation remains the same. We don't have to have everything figured out when we know where we stand.
In Colossians 2:1–8, Paul encourages us to be rooted and built up in Christ, established in the faith, and overflowing with thanksgiving. I love that order. Thanksgiving grows out of a faith that is rooted in Christ. Gratitude isn't just about having a good week or getting the outcome we wanted. It's about recognizing God's faithfulness, even when life doesn't go according to plan.
Our response, He Has Made Me Glad, gives us an opportunity to put that faith into song. And as we hear the message of Steadfast Faith, we're reminded that faith isn't just what we sing on Sunday morning. It's how we keep showing up, keep loving one another, and keep trusting God through every season.
Then we close with Now Thank We All Our God. What a fitting way to bring it all together! We begin with Christ as our foundation and end with a congregation giving thanks to God. That's the movement of our worship: rooted in Christ, strengthened in faith, and overflowing with gratitude.
So, as we enter these three weeks of Thanksgiving, let's remember that gratitude is more than a season on the church calendar. It's a way of living. May we be rooted deeply, stand steadfastly, and give thanks generously.
A Few Things to Ponder. What is keeping you grounded in Christ right now? Where have you seen God's faithfulness lately, even in something small? And how might the gratitude we sing on Sunday become something someone else experiences through us during the week?
Blessings
