8/9 - A Message We Live

As we gather for worship under the theme "A Message We Live," we are reminded that the Gospel is far more than something we hear on Sunday morning. It is a message that takes root in our hearts and is lived out in our daily lives. Jesus' words in John 15:1–5 paint a beautiful picture of that life: "I am the vine; you are the branches." Just as branches draw their life from the vine, we draw our strength, purpose, and hope from Christ. Apart from God, our efforts are empty, but when we remain in God, our lives bear fruit that reflects God's love to the world.

Our opening hymn, "Come, Christians, Join to Sing," reminds us that none of us follows Christ alone. God calls us together as a community of faith, joining our voices in praise and our lives in shared purpose. As we sing, we celebrate the gift of belonging to the body of Christ, where every voice matters and every person has a part to play in God's unfolding story.
We continue with "Abide with Me" (verses 1, 3, and 5), which invites us to rest in Christ's abiding presence. Life often pulls us in countless directions, leaving us weary or distracted. Jesus does not ask us to strive harder. Instead, God invites us to remain with God. In His presence we find peace, strength, and the assurance that no circumstance can separate us from His faithful love.
Following the proclamation of God's Word, we respond by singing "I'm Gonna Live So God Can Use Me." Prayer is not simply asking God to bless our plans. It is opening our hearts so God can shape us for His purposes. As we pray, we become more attentive to God's voice, more willing to follow where Christ leads, and more ready to become instruments of God's grace in our homes, workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods.
Finally, "Build Your Kingdom Here" sends us into the world with joy and purpose. Worship does not end with the final hymn or the closing blessing. It continues as we leave this place to live the message we have received. Connected to Christ, strengthened by one another, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are called to bear fruit that brings hope to the discouraged, compassion to the hurting, and love to a world longing for God's presence.
As choir and congregation, may our music be more than beautiful sound. May every note we sing and every word we proclaim deepen our connection to Christ so that the message we celebrate in worship becomes the message we live each and every day.

9/7 - Blessed are the Poor in Spirit

 St. Andrew's Family  This Sunday we begin a new sermon series on the Beatitudes, the blessings of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount. The very first one may feel upside-down to us: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3) To be poor in spirit means recognizing our deep need for God. It is not about shame or weakness, but about letting go of self-reliance and opening ourselves to God’s mercy and strength. The blessing comes not because of what we have, but because of who God is. Our music this week carries us through that journey of dependence and trust: We begin by singing “Holy, Holy, Holy / Santo, Santo,” lifting our eyes to the majesty of God’s holiness. We are invited with “Come, Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy” to bring our brokenness before God, trusting His welcome. 8/24 - Serving God

 This Sunday is special for more than one reason. Not only are we in Week Three of our series Knowing, Loving, and Serving God , focusing on Serving God , but we also celebrate the Blessing of the Backpacks, Briefcases, and Lunchboxes . Don’t forget to bring yours to worship to be blessed! On the surface, these items are ordinary—things we carry to school, work, or daily life. But in worship, we see them as symbols of calling —reminders of the places where God sends us to serve, to learn, and to be a light to others. Serving God isn’t only about what happens in the sanctuary; it’s about how our faith overflows into the world around us . In Philippians 2:5–15, Paul gives us one of the clearest pictures of service in all of Scripture: “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus…” This isn’t a gentle suggestion—it’s a radical invitation to live with the humility, selflessness, and servant-heartedness of Christ himself.
