6/14 - The Importance of Time

Greetings St. Andrew's Family

This worship service invites us into a deeper reflection on how we understand and live within time. From the beginning, we are drawn out of our daily pace and into God’s eternal perspective. Worship becomes a journey that reshapes how we see our past, our present, and our future. Rather than rushing through this time together, we are invited to experience it as sacred space where God speaks, forms, and sends us.

Opening Hymn – “O God, Our Help in Ages Past”
We begin by lifting our eyes to the eternal faithfulness of God. This hymn reminds us that before time began and long after it ends, God remains our refuge and strength. It sets the tone for worship by grounding us in stability that does not shift with circumstance or season. In this truth, we find rest from the urgency of life and assurance in God’s unchanging presence.

Centering Song – “Goodness of God”
From this foundation, we turn to remembrance. This song helps us reflect on the ways God’s goodness has carried us through every chapter of our lives. As we sing, we connect God’s eternal faithfulness with our personal story. Worship becomes both collective and intimate as gratitude shapes our awareness of God’s presence in every moment.

Scripture – 2 Peter 3:8-18
Scripture now invites us to reconsider how we measure time. Peter reminds us that God’s timing is shaped by patience and love, not delay or absence. What feels slow to us is often God’s space for transformation. In this passage, we are called to faithful living — not rushing ahead in anxiety, but growing steadily in grace and hope.

Sermon – “The Importance of Time” (with clip from Interstellar)
The sermon challenges us to see time through a wider lens. The imagery from Interstellar highlights how limited human perception can be, especially when we are pressed by urgency or loss. Yet God invites us into a different way of living — one shaped by eternal purpose rather than constant pressure. Time becomes a gift in which God is actively shaping who we are becoming in Christ.

Sending Hymn – “Take Time to Be Holy”
As worship concludes, we are given a clear and gentle invitation. Having reflected on God’s eternity, remembered God’s goodness, and heard God’s Word, we are sent to live differently. This hymn calls us to slow down and intentionally make space for prayer, worship, and faithful living. We do not leave in hurry, but in purpose — carrying the presence of God into every moment ahead.

Closing Paragraph
We end worship with a renewed awareness that time is not something to fear or control, but something to receive. God meets us in each moment and continues shaping us beyond the limits of our understanding. The arc of this service leads us from eternal grounding, to personal reflection, to scriptural challenge, to deeper perspective, and finally to faithful living. May we go forward attentive to God’s presence in every moment we are given.

Blessings
