1/4 - Called to Be the Light of the World
As we gather on Sunday, we begin where worship always begins: with God’s call. Our service opens with Here I Am to Worship, a song that invites us to step into the light of Christ with humility and wonder. We do not come as people trying to earn God’s attention — we come as people already seen, already known, already called by name. Paul reminds the church in 1 Corinthians that we are “called to belong to Jesus Christ” and sustained by grace from the very beginning. Our opening song shapes our posture for worship, not as performers on a platform, but as a community choosing to stand in God’s light and offer ourselves fully to the One who calls us into communion and purpose.
At the heart of our worship, the journey deepens. We Three Kings places us within the Epiphany story, following the light that leads us to Christ — sometimes slowly, sometimes with questions, but always with trust. The choir anthem, Walk in the Light by André Thomas, gives voice to this calling in a way that is both powerful and embodied. Here, our sermon theme becomes lived theology: we are called to be the light of the world. We are not only followers of the light; we are learners, pilgrims, and witnesses who are being shaped to walk in it together. As choir and congregation, we model what it means to dwell in Christ’s light so that others may see and be drawn toward it.
As worship sends us out, The Lord Now Sends Us Forth completes the arc by turning our gaze outward. The grace Paul celebrates does not end with belief — it equips us for witness. Having been called, gathered, centered, and illumined, we are sent to shine beyond the sanctuary into homes, neighborhoods, workplaces, and daily rhythms of life. The choir carries this movement in sound and spirit, reminding us that worship does not conclude with a benediction; it continues wherever God’s light is shared.
See you Sunday!
