7/20 - Singing One Gospel, Many Voices
Musical Musings: Singing One Gospel, Many Voices
This Sunday, we continue to explore the power of music to reflect who we are as a congregation — and who God is calling us to become.
The scripture from Jude 1:17–25 invites us to stay grounded in the unchanging truth of the gospel. In a world of shifting voices and quick fixes, Jude offers a clear exhortation: Remember the message you received. Build up your faith. Stay in God's love. It’s a timely reminder that salvation isn't something we reinvent — it's something we respond to, again and again, with awe, gratitude, and faithfulness.
That theme comes alive in our worship music this week.
We will begin with the first verse of “O Sing to the Lord / Cantad al Señor” — sung in both English and Spanish. This hymn will be our opening song for several weeks as we lean intentionally into our identity as a blended Anglo and Hispanic congregation. By singing together in both languages, we are doing more than offering translation — we are making space for deeper relationship, mutual hospitality, and Spirit-led unity. Worship becomes a place where every voice belongs, and where we embody the expansive welcome of the gospel.
Immediately following, we lift our voices in “We’re Marching to Zion,” a rousing reminder that we are a people on the move — not just toward heaven, but toward God’s dream for justice, peace, and beloved community. The gospel isn't stagnant. It's alive, calling us forward with joy.
Our centering hymn, “In Our Lives, Lord, Be Glorified,” brings the message close to home. Salvation is not abstract — it’s made visible in how we live. As we sing this, we invite God to be glorified in our daily walk, our service, and even our singing.
And as we send the congregation out, “To God Be the Glory” will ring out in celebration of God’s mighty acts. This final hymn re-centers our hearts on the truth that it is God who saves, God who restores, and God who deserves all the praise.
Through it all, we are singing the same gospel — in many voices, with open hearts, and joyful faith. May this week's music not only prepare us for worship but transform us to live more fully as a people saved by grace and united in love.
See you at rehearsal and in worship!
In one Spirit, many tongues, and the same unshakable gospel.
Music Tom
